In a recent Forbes.com article, “Why Companies Fail to Engage Today’s Workforce: The Overwhelmed Employee,” Josh Bersin states, “Companies are struggling to engage our modern, twenty-first century workforce.” Bersin cites evidence from a 2014 Deloitte-Global Human Capital Trends study with 2,500 organizations in 90 different countries. Among the study’s findings, 86% of business and HR leaders believe they do not have an adequate leadership pipeline, 79% believe they have a significant retention and engagement problem, and 75% are struggling to attract and recruit the top people they need.
What is happening to leadership in this century? How are these alarming statistics being addressed? To pose it more poignantly, how can we make life more fulfilled and less fatiguing not only in ourselves, but also in the lives of others in the workplace and maintain sustainable innovation?
